Module D certification update

2.1.24

R.Glover Ascroft holds PPE Regulation 2016/425 Module D certification for PPE. Our certification covers specified PPE types for distribution within the UK market and the European Union single market.

The EU PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (and its UK based counterpart) places requirements on manufacturers providing PPE that is used in demanding workplace environments. Such PPE is classifed by the Regulation as 'Complex Design'. The Regulation requires manufacturers to demonstrate that their products are manufacturered to a consistent quality. In the language of the Regulation, this requirement is known as ensuring "conformity to type".

There are two methods to comply with this requirement: either by following a process known as Module C2, or by following a process known as Module D. The two processes offer different methods to ensure conformity to type, and R. Glover Ascroft uses the Module D process.

Module D is an annual assessment, undertaken by an independent auditor who is qualified to assess for Module D, and the product type. The audit checks the manufacturer's processes to ensure that the produced PPE is of a consistent and measurable quality. For the consumer, a Module D certified manufacturer is demonstrating conformity to type based on quality assurance of the production process. Or, to put it more simply, the manufacturer's processes will produce PPE offering consistent protection in keeping with the claimed performance.

R. Glover Ascroft is one of the few PPE manufacturers to hold this standard in its own name for both hand protection (gloves, mittens) and body protection (aprons, sleeves).

Following the UK's departure from the EU, Module D certification is now required for both the UK and EU markets. Certificates for both markets are available for download.
